What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care is a beautiful holistic way of approaching health. It incorporates aspects of science, art and philosophy and is defined as “a healing art that improves function of the spine and central nervous system.”

The aim of care is to have your body as balanced as possible physically, emotionally and chemically through a variety of techniques.

In our practice we do chiropractic care a little bit differently as we don't use the manual "cracking" techniques often associated with chiropractors! Have a read through the next few boxes to see what we do!

What Is Chiropractic?

What Is Your Nervous System?

Your nervous system includes your brain, spinal cord and all of the nerves that branch out to every single cell, tissue, muscle and organ in your body.

In order for your body to carry out any action, function or thought your brain and body have to send electrical signals between each other through your nervous system.

The more optimal your nervous system function then the more optimal those electrical signals are transmitted.

What Is The Role of A Chiropractor?

Our role as chiropractors is to assess the nervous system for any areas of dysfunction and then assist the body in restoring that function through our corrective adjustments.

This allows the brain to accurately perceive what is going on in its environment and respond accordingly. In turn this may have a positive effect on pain, energy, sleep, digestion, immune system, posture and much more.

Our Main Techniques

As every body is different, the techniques that are chosen for your care will be tailored to your particular presentation as well as your preference. At the end of the day this is your body and your care!

Activator: This is a small instrument that provides short vibrational impulses to the necessary structures to help activate the function and movement of the joint.

Applied Kinesiology (AK): This technique uses large muscle groups throughout your body, such as your arm or your leg, to determine areas of dysfunction. This allows us to analyse the body gently and effectively.

Our Main Techniques

Chiropractic Care for Pregnancy

The aim during chiropractic care for pregnant mothers is to balance her entire system as much as possible.

This includes the position of the pelvis to encourage less tension in the muscles and ligaments, therefore removing any impact on the position of the womb.  It also includes balancing aspects such as cortisol (stress) levels, adequate sleep, optimal immune system function and many more.

Our techniques used throughout your pregnancy care are all low-force, gentle and non-invasive. We can use specific pillows to help support your growing bub as well so that you can still be receiving care right up to the big day!

Chiropractic Care for Babies/Children

The aim during chiropractic care for babies is to ensure that they are adapting as adequately as possible to their change in environment from womb to the outside world.

This includes supporting their growth and development so that it is as whole as it can be, especially as they get older, by removing any unnecessary tension and stress in their systems to allow for optimal brain and body development.

Babies are adjusted very differently to adults. Depending on their age, adjustments can be done by hand using the same light pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato. As they get older, and provided they are comfortable with it, adjustments can then be performed using the activator instrument if needed.
